Transition Services Making the transition from school to the adult world is exciting for both the student and their family. Ontario ARC offers services to make that move easier. Starting with a plan based on the student's unique needs, Ontario ARC's Transition Coordinator can explain each of the agency's services and help offer suggestions as to which services may be right for the student. At Home Residential Habilitation The Residential Habilitation Program provides customized in-home teaching and training designed to increase independence. In-home training allows for individualized instruction that is based around a person's own home and community. Community Based Assessment
Designed to help an individual identify their vocational interests, skills, strengths and needs. An assessment may be done at Abbey Industries or at community work sites. Through an interview, use of paper and pencil testing, work sampling and observing an individual in actual work settings, the Assessment Specialist is able to summarize their observations and offer recommendations regarding future vocational alternatives. For some individuals, with specific goals or interests, the assessment will be very focused. For others, the assessment will be more generalized to give the individual an opportunity to explore several vocational options. Service Coordination At each stage of a persons life, there are many exciting options that must be considered from housing and employment to recreational activities and benefits. Service Coordination helps the individual connect with needed resources from Ontario ARC and the community. Service Coordinators are trained information experts who help by acting as advocates, assisting in filling out forms, and offering on-going information about programs and services that can help the individual and their family make informed choices. Guardianship Services The Guardianship Program provides information and education about guardianship. Assistance is provided to families in setting up guardianships as well as providing information and referrals regarding planning for the financial future of a family member with a disability. Family Support Services Family Support Services provide families who have a family member with a developmental disability living at home financial reimbursement for goods and services related to their family member's developmental disability. This includes reimbursement for in-home care on weekends and evenings through Respite and special sitters. |
