NYSARC, Inc. celebrates 60th anniversary with Celebration Walk

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of NYSARC, Inc. -- our agency's parent organization -- 20 participants and staff took a trip down to Albany to participate in the Celebration Walk. More than 2,000 individuals representing ARC Chapters across the state joined the festivities, which included a presentation in front of the Capital Building.

“The walk symbolizes not only our strength, but the steps our agency has taken to create opportunities and enhance the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities,” said Donna Auria, the agency’s director of development. “This march represents a great opportunity to advocate with participants, while supporting their right to be active, vibrant residents of New York state.”

Ontario ARC celebrates 19th anniversary of the Eberhardt Center

Yesterday, the agency held an all-day celebration in honor of the Eberhardt Center's 19th anniversary. Participants put on creative, musical performances and had a cake contest to commemorate the event.

Named after Ontario ARC's long time board member William Eberhardt, the facility provides a wide range of day habilitation services to individuals with developmental disabilities throughout the Finger Lakes region.

Creative Expressions Art Program to host "Exploring Expressions" at Rio TomatlanSneak Peak!
A sneak peak of masks to be featured during "Exploring Expressions" at Rio Tomatlan, Oct. 8 at 4:30 p.m.

Ontario ARC's Creative Expressions Art Program will hold its "Exploring Expressions" opening reception on Oct. 8, 4:30 p.m. at Rio Tomatlan in Canandaigua.

The exhibit -- which will be on display at the restaurant during October -- features masks created by participants in the Creative Expressions program. The art program focuses on exploration, expression, and communication through multiple, artistic projects in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture.

NYSARC, Inc. president visits Ontario ARC

Today, Katharine Wilson Conroy – president of NYSARC, Inc. – visited Ontario ARC to speak about the challenges facing ARC organizations.

During a presentation to staff, Conroy gave a brief history of NYSARC, Inc., as well as an overview of its current situation in light of potential budget cuts facing ARC organizations across the state.

In addition, Conroy also visited the agency's College Experience program at Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges. The program provides individuals with developmental disabilities the opportunity to learn life skills in a college campus setting.

Cruisin' for a Cause raises nearly $50,000 for agency's recreation programs

Ontario ARC's 17th annual "Cruisin' for a Cause" raised nearly $50,000 for the agency's recreation programs. Held at Steamboat Landing in August, more than 400 local residents attended the festivities, which included sunset cruises, live auction, entertainment by The Works and Metro, and silent auction.

Much thanks to the agency's generous sponsors, who made this event possible.

Ontario ARC to host grand opening of its newest Geneva community site on Sept. 29

Ontario ARC will celebrate the grand opening of its new community learning center at the Geneva Presbyterian Church on Sept. 29, 12 p.m.  Light refreshments and snacks will be served. With the opening of its latest site, Ontario ARC has seven community learning centers throughout Ontario County, which serve individuals with developmental disabilities.

BT's 8th annual Halloween Bash to raise funds for Ontario ARC

The Sons of Italy will host BT's 8th annual Halloween Bash on Sat. Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. at its Geneva headquarters, 31 Prospect Avenue. A portion of the proceeds will go towards Ontario ARC's services and programs.

The event will feature tarot card readings, live performances by Group Therapy and Futures Past, special tribute guests Flavor Flav and Elvira and her daughters, as well as a special coffin visitor at midnight. In addition, the party will also hold a costume contest with cash prizes.

Pre-sale tickets -- $4/person and $8/couple -- are available by contacting Bob Taddario at 315-694-2416. Tickets are also available at the door for $6/person and $12/couple.
